Slow or unstable Windows PC: 3 commands to repair the system

Blue screens, crashing apps, stuck updates: Windows system files may be damaged.

CommandIntermediateIT maintenancePowerShell
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthsfc /scannowchkdsk C: /scan

Output

La protection des ressources Windows a trouvé des fichiers corrompus et les a réparés.

Explanation

Open PowerShell as administrator (right-click the Start menu), then run the commands in this order:

  1. DISM repairs the Windows image using Windows Update (internet connection required, allow 10 to 20 minutes).

  2. SFC checks and replaces damaged system files using the repaired image.

  3. CHKDSK scans the disk without rebooting; if it reports errors, schedule a repair with chkdsk C: /f at next startup.

Then restart the computer. If problems persist, check the disk's health (see the disk health tip) before considering a reinstall.
